The Melbourne-based cricket club says it is very close to making a deal with Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gale for its T20 games this summer. Mulgrave Cricket Club, which plays in the third competition of the Eastern Cricket Association (ECA) in Melbourne, said it is also in talks with West Indian legend Brian Lara and the great AB de Villiers from South Africa.
Mulgrave has already provided the services of Tillakaratne Dilshan from Sri Lanka and Upul Taranga for the summer with Sanat Jayasuria as their head coach.
Mulgrave president Milan Pullenayegam said talks were under way with former universal Indian Yuvraj and West Indian Gayle.
“We have secured Dilshan, we have secured Sanat, we have secured Taranga. And now we are working on finalizing agreements with several other potential players,” Pulenaegam told cricket.com.au.
“We’re in talks, and we’re close to 85 to 90 percent there with Chris (Gale) and Eugene. We need to finalize a few things, but it looks really good.” However, the two cricketers have not yet commented on the deal.
The president added that the club is trying to attract more sponsors to sign the big stars.
“Right now we have good support that will take us across the border, but we don’t just want to break up, we want to be able to bring the community back and expand the structure of the club.
“It’s a process, with these big names players there are a lot of things we have to include in our visits to Australia: we will provide them with accommodation, their travel, food, etc., there are a lot of things we have to do arrange for them .
“While here we want to connect them with our sponsors and see if they can give something back to the club and the sponsors. So it’s all part of the negotiations and conversations we have with them.”
The ECA T20 Cup will include 3 preliminary matches before the knockout phase of three more matches between November and February.
The website also said that each international player is likely to play only one or two games.
