The Indian pair of athletes continued their good show at the 12th International World Grand Prix in Para Athletics at Faca, winning five medals, including two gold, on the second day of competition.
Paralympic athlete Simran came close to her Paralympic dream when she won the gold medal in the women’s 100m T13 final, turning 12.74 seconds. This was her second international medal after the 2019 Chinese Grand Prix.
“It’s a great feeling to compete internationally. After almost two years, I competed in a competition. Although I was experiencing some pain in my lower leg; it’s a recurring injury,” said the visually impaired athlete from Delhi.
“My dream is to break the world record at the 2020 Paralympic Games. I am heading for 11.40 seconds. I will work harder to improve my time now,” she added.
Meanwhile, 36-year-old Neraj Yadav threw the discus at a distance of 35.49 meters to take the gold in the men’s discus throw F55.
In the men’s T44 long jump final, Legal Kumar (5.95 m) and Pardip (5.73 m) claimed second and third place with jumps of 5.95 m and 5.73 m respectively and finished Kantinan Khumphong (5, 50 m in T63). This was a combined event T44 / 63.
Among others, Bhagyashri Mahavir Jadhav claims the bronze medal in the women’s Javelin F34 with a throw of 11.36 m.
On the opening day, Devender Kumar and Nimisha Suresh Chakkungalparambil had won gold medals in their respective events.
