West India have recalled universal Andre Russell for the first and second T20 Internationals against South Africa, which are set to start on Saturday.
The Cricket West India (CWI) selection panel on Friday named the 13-member team for just the first two T20Is of the five-game series, with Kieran Pollard as captain and Nicholas Puran as his replacement.
Russell is a two-time T20 World Cup winner, having been a member of the team that won the titles in 2012 and 2016. He played 49 T20Is for the West Indies, most recently against Sri Lanka in Palekele last March.
CWI chief coach Roger Harper said, “Andre Russell will add this ‘X’ factor to the team. He is a hit player with both bat and ball and gives more depth in both divisions. upgraded the performance against Sri Lanka earlier this year to build confidence while determining our best squad and team until we face the ICC T20 World Cup. “
West India have already lost the test series, which was played at Gros Islet, St. Lucia, 2-0.
