India has yet to win the ICC title below Virat Kohlileadership and this remains a mystery to former head coach Dilip Vengsarkar.
After defeating India with eight wickets in the World Cup final (WTC) against New Zealand, Wengsarkar said the result could be different if the race was the best of the three.
“Honestly, the victory over Australia earlier this year was a great achievement. I attach great importance to such victories. This WTC has just started, I don’t know how long they will continue with it,” Wengsarkar told PTI.
“I feel that if you play in countries like England, you have to play the best of three games to know where the team is. Because after that test, if we had two more games, the final result could have been different, because India there was already a game being played.
“I don’t know why they are not able (to win the ICC title). They have the combination and the players do it.”
At the moment, Wengsarkar also sees no merit in the debate over split captaincy. Many fans and experts were invited Rohit Sharma take responsibility in at least one game format.
“If Virat is good enough to play in all the formats he is, then he must continue to lead the country. He must be replaced only if he does not deserve a place in the country.
“The captain of ODI plays under the captain of the test and vice versa, I do not believe in that Joe Koren playing under Morgan under ODI, I don’t agree with that because he’s also good enough to lead this country, “the 65-year-old said.
