Gurkeerat Singh Mann’s undefeated 139 went in vain as Tamil Nadu beat Punjab six weekends in an Elite Group B match in the one-day Vijay Hazare tournament.
139 of Mann’s 121 deliveries (14x4s, 7x6s) helped Punjab score 288 for four of the 50 overs. However, Tamil Nadu took care of his home with over to save.
A partnership with a second wicket of 185 starts between Narayan Jagadeesan (101 of 103 balls) and Baba Aparajith (88 of 115 balls) set Tamil Nadu on a winning streak after the early loss of Arun Karthik’s piggy bank.
Towards the end, Shahruk Khan, who signed a 5.25 crore contract with the Punjab Kings on IPL auction, showed his great strength as his 36-ball 55 helped close the game in favor of Tamil Nadu. Khan hit seven fours and sixes.
Earlier, Punjab found itself in deep trouble, losing two early wickets with a score of 30 to 11.3 overs.
However, Man and Prabhsimran Singh (71 of 84 balls, 4×4, 3×6) added 116 tracks for the third wicket to resurrect the inning.
Sanvir Singh made 58 of 53 balls (4x4s, 3x6s).
Punjab 288/4 in 50 overs (GS Mann 139 is not out, Prabhsimran 71, Sanvir 58) lost to Tamil Nadu 289/4 in 49 overs (N Jagadeesan 101, B Aparajith 88, Sharukh Khan 55 not out).
