BCCI has added KS Bharat to the Indian team for the upcoming UK tour, which includes the World Cup final against New Zealand and a series of five tests against England.
Bharat is included as a cover for Wriddhiman Saha, according to ANI.
Saha had tested negative for COVID-19 earlier this week, but the selection committee was reluctant to take the risk and included Bharat, given the COVID protocols.
“It was added as a cover for Sakha, given that he is still recovering from the virus and keeping a wicket is a specialized job. If Sakha was not fit in time, we would need a second guard on the team for the tour, which is quarterly, “a source told ANI.
Players bound to the United Kingdom by both the men’s and women’s teams have entered a 14-day mandatory quarantine period in Mumbai.
The team will leave for the UK on June 2. The Indian men’s team is expected to have the right to train during their quarantine in England to prepare for the final of the World Test Championship, which is scheduled for June 18-22 in Southampton.
