Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal will face Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin in the opening round of the men’s singles competition at the Tokyo Olympics, starting here on Friday.
Nagal, who qualified for the games last week after a big draw, faced a low-ranking Uzbek in Thursday’s draw.
The victory in the first round for the 23-year-old Indian, ranked 160th, can see him against the second placed Russian Daniil Medvedev, who opposes Alexander Bublik in his match from the first round.
In the women’s doubles, the six-time Grand Slam champions Sanya Mirza and Ankita Raina will lock the horns with the twins Kichenok – Nadia and Ludmila – from Ukraine in the starting round.
Interestingly, Mirza had teamed up with Nadia after returning from her motherhood to win the Hobart Open last year.
