Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is already in production and will premiere sometime in 2022 on HBO and HBO Max in the United States. If HBO’s deal with Star India is still there, House of the Dragon will air on Disney + Hotstar in India. Those who have read Fire & Blood will understand that HBO series is not for adaptation between lines. While the book begins with the conquest of Westeros by Segon I Targaryen, House of the Dragon begins with its great-great-grandson Viserys I. Behind the scenes, Emmy Sapochnik winner will direct the Dragon House pilot and additional episodes. Emmy-winning colleague Greg Yitanes (House), Clare Kilner (The Alienist) and Geeta V. Patel (Meet the Patels) will direct the remaining episodes of the 10-episode season 1. Yaitanes is a co-executive producer.
HBO is reportedly developing several other Thrones divisions in addition to House of the Dragon. In January we heard about a Dunk & Egg a prehistory that will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen; and an animated series HBO Max in the very early stages. And then in March, reports filtered into three more backstories in the works: “9 voyages” that will follow the aforementioned Sea Snake, “10,000 ships” for the founder of the warrior queen of Dorn Princess Nimeria and “Flea Bottom”, located in the eponymous neighborhood of the slums of King’s Landing.
House of the Dragon will be the first prequel to Game of Thrones when it arrives in 2022.
