The reigning Wimbledon champion Simona Halep withdrew from the Grand Slam tournament on Friday due to an injured left calf.
Halep is ranked No. 3, but would be placed second at the All England Club because runner-up Naomi Osaka withdrew from Wimbledon earlier.
Halep tore his calf during a match at the Italian Open in May and went to the French Open, which he won in 2018 for the first of his two major championships.
In 2019, the last time he played at Wimbledon, Halep defeated Serena Williams 6-2, 6-2 in the final.
Halep’s withdrawal came shortly before the draw at the All England Club. The game in the main tournament on the grass field starts on Monday
