The T20 World Cup, to be held in India, is being transferred to the UAE due to health concerns raised by COVID-19, BCCI President Surav Ganguli told PTI on Monday.

The mega-event is to take place in October-November.

“We have officially informed the ICC that the T20 World Cup could be transferred to the United Arab Emirates. Details are emerging,” Ganguli said.

Earlier this month, the ICC gave BCCI a four-week window to decide and inform whether India could host the tent event, given the situation with COVID-19 in the country.

PTI was the first to announce on May 4 that the tournament was moving to the UAE.

This was after the pandemic forced the postponement of IPL, the second part of which is also held in the UAE in September-October.
