Swiss motorcyclist Jason Dupaskie died after a crash during the Moto3, qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix, Careggi Hospital in Florence announced on Sunday He was 19 years old.
“Despite the best efforts of the medical staff and all those who subsequently joined the Swiss rider, the hospital announced that Dupaskie had unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,” a MotoGP statement said.
Dupaskier was involved in an incident with Ayumu Sasaki and Jeremy Alcoba at the end of Saturday’s session, which was immediately put under a red flag.
Dupaskier appeared to have fallen and was then hit by his own motorcycle and Sasaki’s, while a visibly shocked Alcoba later said on television that he thought he had also crossed the Swiss rider’s legs.
He was treated on the runway for about 30 minutes before a helicopter landed and took him by air to a hospital in Florence.
