Spain hopes captains Sergio Busquets and Diego Llorente will still influence the European Championship, after both players have been tested for coronavirus.
Llorente’s positive test on Tuesday may have been wrong after additional tests were negative, coach Luis Enrique said on Thursday. The Leeds defender will pass more tests on Thursday and Friday. If he clears them, the team said in a statement that they could return to the squad before Spain’s first match on Monday against Sweden.
Spain’s preparations were suspended after Busquette tested positive last Sunday. Players who pass the test must remain in isolation for at least 10 days, which means that Busquets will miss the opening against Sweden.
Luis Enrique said of the Barcelona midfielder that “we will wait for him”.
“The good thing is that he has time on his side. Busquets will be in the squad, no doubt, said Luis Enrique. “Busket is fine, without symptoms, so he can train and keep fit. We hope that everything can be scared. “
In Group E, Spain also plays Poland on June 19 and Slovakia on June 23 in Seville.
The other players in Spain have passed daily tests for coronavirus. However, Luis Enrique called in additional players and created two separate sides to reduce the chances of the hearth leaving him without a team.
