After snatching the victory from the jaws of defeat, the Indian team with limited shots is ready to sweep the ODI series with 3-0, when they took over Sri Lanka in the third and last ODI here at R Premadasa Stadium on Friday.
India won the first game by seven wickets, but had their backs to the wall in the second game before Deepak Chahar played a rough 69-shot to help the side win with three wickets and end the series.
The biggest challenge for the Indian batsmen will be the spinning foot Vanindu Hasaranga, who received the new ball and surprised the guests while disturbing them. He chose the door of Prithvi Shaw,, Shikhar Davan and Crowned Panda.
He almost won the match for Sri Lanka, but fortunately for India, Chahar played a winning match to take them home.
Victory in the series will strengthen Indian morale, although it should also be mentioned that Sri Lanka is missing five of the top players. Three of them were temporarily removed and two others were injured.
India is also missing some of their key players on the England test team.
Winning the series will enhance Rahul Dravid’s powers as coach. Although the Sri Lankans are relatively weak, Dravid has won good reviews from some of the youngsters.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, would hope for a consoling victory. Their problem is the lack of experience in captaincy. The standing skipper Dasun Shanaka made the mistake of keeping the pitch in the penultimate one when India still needed a few runs. This allowed the Indians to use the pace of Dushmantha Chameera and win several limits in the vacant region of a third person.
