Rio Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik will compete in the 65kg freestyle at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) said while announcing the Indian team.

In the national selection tests held at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) training center in Lucknow on Saturday, Divya Kakran was selected up to 72kg, while Sarita Mor will play in the 59kg race in the continental competition, which will take place from 9 until April 18 Pinki was selected to weigh up to 55 kg.

Last week, Sakshi hopes to compete in the 62kg category, an Olympic race, as he lost to Sonam Malik in the national selection trials also held in Lucknow. Sonam will compete in the Asian Olympic qualifiers in Almaty. The finish of the podium in Kazakhstan will ensure that Sonam will go to the Olympic Games in Tokyo on July 23.

In February, 18-year-old Sonam from Haryana suffered a head injury during training and was withdrawn from the Italian tournament in the world rankings, held in March. Despite missing vital training before the national selection tests, the teenager showed the courage to overtake Sakshi and stay in the race for the Olympic port.
