On Monday, Pakistan appointed a 26-member women’s cricket team for their upcoming limited tour of the West Indies, starting on June 30th.

The experienced wagon Javeria Khan will lead the national side, while Rameen Shamim and wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz have been appointed captains of the respective three one-dayers and so many T20s.

“This is a historic occasion in the history of Pakistani women’s cricket, as for the first time the national side and Team A are traveling together,” said Uroy Mumtaz, chairman of the national women’s selection committee.

“The Caribbean tour is a phenomenal opportunity for our core group of cricketers to show off their performances and extra cement spots for the 2021-22 season, which promises to be exciting for women’s cricket.

“These 26 players have participated in all of our high-performance camps over the past nine months and entered the hard courts under the leadership of the national coaching staff, led by David Hamp. The group has prepared with high intensity and aim to deliver winning performances.”

The Pakistani women’s team will play West India in three T20Is and five ODIs, and the “A” side will face their counterparts in three one-day matches and as many T20s.

All 26 players who will be available for selection for the 14 matches, along with the coaching staff and team staff, arrived in Lahore on Monday morning. They will depart for Antigua via London in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Team A matches are a great incentive and motivation for peripheral players to claim the national side, as exceptional performances will be rewarded by players who have faced the national side and those who cannot perform at the top may continue to receive competitive matches from A, Mumtaz said.

“Our last bilateral series with the West Indies created quality racing cricket. The defeated T20I series witnessed a passionate crowd of young girls in Karachi. We then recorded a historic 2-1 ODI series victory with an outstanding fight to get back.

“I hope that quality cricket will be shown, as we strive to improve our further global position and continue to insist on becoming top contenders on the world stage.”

The first three T20Is are scheduled to take place on June 30, July 2 and July 4 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Team T20 Games will also be held at the same venue on the same dates.

Pakistan will play the first two ODIs on July 7 and July 9 at Coolidge Cricket Ground, while the next two matches will take place on July 12 and July 15 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

The fifth and final match will take place on July 18 at Coolidge Cricket Ground.
