Double Trap world champion Ankur Mittal and gunman Anjum Moudgil were recommended on Wednesday for the Rajiv Gandhi Hel Ratna Award by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI).
Mittal won his world double trap title in 2018 and received the Arjuna Award the same year. Moudgil is a silver medalist from the World Championship, also from the 2018 edition and in 2019 she was awarded the Arjuna
“The two were also recommended in the same category last year,” the NRAI said in a statement.
For the Arjuna awards, the NRAI recommended the Olympic duo Elavenil Valarivan and Abhishek Verma. While the Valarivan is world number one in the women’s 10-meter air rifle, the Verma is at the forefront of the men’s 10-meter air pistol.
Also in the fight for national honor is the world champion with a 50 m pistol Om Prakash Miteval.
This year there are no recommendations in the Dronacharya awards category from the NRAI.
The National Sports Awards are presented each year on August 29 to mark the anniversary of the birth of hockey legend Major Diane Chand as National Sports Day.
In addition to recommendations from national federations, athletes can also be nominated through online applications. The deadline for submissions is July 5.
