Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar selected for Asian Women’s Cup in 2022 (representative image)

Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar were finalized on Friday as the three places in the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup football tournament to host India.

India is hosting the premier continental tournament from January 20 to February 6 next year. India is also scheduled to host the next edition of the 2022 FIFA Men’s Under-17 World Cup.

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Secretary-General Dato Windsor John said: “Women’s football in Asia is world-class, and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and LOC have chosen exceptional venues that will present a real spectacle befitting the growth of tournament.

DY Patil Stadium (Navi Mumbai), TransStadia (Ahmedabad) and Kalinga Stadium (Bhubaneswar) will host the matches.

“AFC is grateful to AIFF, LOC and the three host cities for their dedication and we are confident that the tournament will serve as a catalyst for bringing women’s football to India, which continues to make significant strides, to even greater heights in the coming years.” said John.

“We applaud them for their vision and wish the AIFF and LOC the best of success in their ambitions to show their ability to organize a successful international exhibition.”

AIFF President and FIFA Board Member Praful Patel said: “We are excited to start the new year with the AFC Asian Women’s Cup. Ahmedabad, Bubaneswar and Navi Mumbai have put a lot of work into upgrading their football infrastructure.

“Although we saw Navi Mumbai deliver spectacularly in 2017 for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, we are leading the game to new places

Bubaneswar and Ahmedabad in both women’s tournaments next year, which is really encouraging for our entire football ecosystem. “

The qualifiers for the tournament must be held from September 13 to 25 at centralized locations, and the draw must take place on May 27 at the AFC headquarters here.
