England manager Gareth Southgate is impressed by the ethics of 20-year-old worker Phil Foden, as the Manchester City star’s midfielder is threatening to take the European Championship with a storm.
Foden is enjoying a stellar season for City, helping them win the Premier League title and the League Cup, with the Champions League final still to take place on Saturday.
He played almost twice as many minutes in the Premier League as in 2019-20, and started all City knockout games in Europe. Southgate is excited by the prospect of what is to come from Foden and welcomes Pep Guardiola’s leadership to the talented midfielder.
I doubt he’s on top, which is incredibly exciting. He had a fantastic season. I guess we all sat and wondered, “Will he get his chance” and “Will it be the right way?” “And you have to say that Pep handled this brilliantly,” the Three Lions boss said, DPA reported.
“He has allowed him to develop. He is able to train with the best coach in the world and work with some of the best players in the world every day. We know the ability that is there. He (Guardiola) gave “It’s time to get a little stronger physically. He’s still playing it more often than wide or like 10 instead of eight, so it’s interesting to watch from the outside,” Southgate said.
Southgate said Foden’s desire to score as well as score goals impressed him greatly.
“But what impressed me the most was the hunger for goals. He has a real hunger for every goal-scoring workout. It’s not just about creating. He has a real desire to score and that’s a great attribute to have. there is and he is extremely exciting, but he is young and still learning and he is a player we have to take care of and make sure we give him the best chance of success, “he said.
