English goalkeeper Joss Butler was ruled out of the rest of England’s T20I and ODI against Sri Lanka after he suffered a right calf injury in the hosts’ first T20I victory in Cardiff on 23 June.

Butler, who scored an undefeated 68 to lead England to victory with eight wickets, underwent a magnetic resonance imaging in Cardiff on Thursday morning, which revealed a small tear.

Butler had felt tight and uncomfortable at the end of the game. He returned home on Friday to begin his rehabilitation program.

Yorkshire batsman David Malan has joined the ODI team for the series from Sri Lanka.

The 30-year-old Butler did not play in the second T20I against Sri Lanka on Thursday, which the hosts won with five weeks to take a 2-0 lead in a three-game series.

Butler was in the news recently after saying he was traveling to Australia for the ashes without families it would be difficult for the players
