Here, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda will host the Indian Super League final on March 13 for a record third time, organizers said on Wednesday.
The semifinals for the first match will be held in two places – GMC Stadium in Bambolim and JL Nehru Stadium here – on March 5 and 6. The rematch is scheduled for March 8 and 9 in the same places.
“The away-away rule will not apply to the semi-finals this season. The teams with the highest total goals in their respective two-legged links will continue until the final,” Football Sports Development Limited said in a statement.
The league phase ends on February 28. The last match is scheduled between the current leaders of ATK Mohun Bagan (36 points) and the second place in Mumbai City FC (34 points). Both teams have already qualified for the playoffs.
The team that finished at the top of the table after the league phase will be crowned the winners of the Shield League, winning a direct entry into the group stage of the prestigious AFC Champions League next season.
“During the season, Hero ISL expanded to 11 teams. The number of matches increased from 95 last season to an unprecedented 115,” said FSDL.
“It was one of the most struggling seasons so far with exciting last-minute finals in many games. Eight teams are still fighting to finish in the top four, heading for the last three rounds of the League stage.”
