Indian duo Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker have agreed on a silver medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol tournament at the ISSF World Cup on Saturday. The Russian Vitalina Batsarashkina and Artem Chernousov defeated the duo of India in the final.
Bhaker and Choudhary, however, did not fall without a fight, as they returned twice; from 2-6 and 6-12 to equalize with their Russian opponents. However, the Russian duo eventually won 16-12.
Earlier, India won at least a silver medal on the third day of the competition, as the duo Chaudhary and Bhaker scored the second best result (387) in the final qualifying round of the 10m air pistol mixed team clash with the gold medal.
The second Indian wrestling team, including Verma and Desual, is also vying for a medal, as the two finished third with a total of 386 in the last qualifying round, winning a place in the bronze medal match against Golnoush Sebgatolahi and Javad Foroi of Iran.
However, it was a bad day in the office for Indian rifle shooters competing in a 10-meter air mixed event.
Both teams failed to reach the final. While the pairing of Elavenil Valarivan and Divyansh Singh Panwar managed to reach the second qualifying round, finishing sixth with a total of 416.1.
The duo Anjum Mujgil and Deepak Kumar failed to clear the first qualifying round. The pair finished a disappointing 15th place for a total of 624.6.
So far, India has won two medals at the global event.
Chaudhary won a bronze medal in the men’s 10-meter air pistol race on the opening day, and the women’s 10-meter air pistol team, which included Bhaker, Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Rahi Sarnobat, took bronze on the second day.
The event is the last competitive outing of the Indian shooting team before the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
