Young Ishan Pandita’s injury strike helped FC Goa draw 2-2 against Chennai Finn in an Indian Super League (ISL) match here on Saturday
The tie, Goa’s sixth trot, helped the Gaurs climb to third in the table.
While Pandita and Igor Angulo scored for Goa, Jakub Sylvester and Lalianzuala Changte found the net for Chennai.
It was Chennai who started harder but failed to take advantage of a few early chances. Just when it seemed that their revelry at the door would cost them, Chennaine led.
Reagan Singh was the one who paved the way to the goal with a great job on the right wing. He found Sylvester through an army of Goa defenders who took a few touches before reaching an excellent finish, although they lost their balance and went to the ground.
Chennai’s lead lasted less than six minutes when Goa went looking for the equalizer and received a penalty. Eli Sabia, while competing with Angulo to get to the cross, managed to do it only with his hand and the judge immediately pointed to the place.
There was some drama when Angulo gave a penalty to the hosts just for the referee to order him to take it again. But the Spaniard did not make a mistake for the second time as he dragged his team back to level.
Despite the retreat, Chennai gathered enough determination to start the attack again and it was they who created the better chances in the first half. The best of them came just before the halftime whistle when Sylvestr hit the carpentry structure, although Goa’s only goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh was defeated.
Chennai’s efforts paid off in the second half as they regained the lead. But the goal did not make good visibility for Goa fans, as it came from confusion between Dheeraj and his defenders.
The young goalkeeper went for the ball, only to run into one of his defenders. The ball is cleared off the boot of the defender, Lallianzuala Chhangte.
It looked like Goa would make that mistake as the match progressed into injury time without them looking to find an equalizer. But then Pandita came in with his late goal, something he has the skill to do. PTI APA AH
