The confidence gained from their exploits for India will help young people like Washington Sundar and Mohamed Siraj when they represent the Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL, feels skipper They grow kohli.
On the eve of the opening of the IPL-14 against defending champions, the Mumbai Indians, Collie talks about how his confidence after playing internationally as a youngster shook him during the IPL, something that could happen to Washington and Siraj, who have done well in recent test matches.
“(What) I did as a young man to bring international trust to the IPL. Watching Washy, (Navdeep) Saini and Siraj appear on their own and Yuzi has been around for a while, show their personality, it will help us pull on stronger as a team and moving in the right direction, “Collie said during his interactions with the RCB media team.
What satisfied Collie more than anything else was the presence of young “hit players” on his team, which in turn is a headache for the opposition.
“Our young people have become more confident with more experience. Now the opposition knows that these guys can make an impact in any situation, which is obviously a great sign for us.”
Just like last year in the UAE, no team will get a home advantage even in Indian conditions, which is a good thing, according to Koli.
“There is nothing like the game in Chinnaswamy, but the good thing is that we are back in India and another positive thing like last year is that there is no home advantage,” he said.
“Each team plays in neutral places and the strength of the country comes to the fore and that’s exactly why the last IPL was so competitive. Since each team was planning to qualify for the playoffs, save the last 3-4 games, which is great for the tournament because the audience last time went through the roof.
“Having done well last year in such a competitive scenario, I am confident that this time we will present a strong show,” he added.
He also welcomed foreign additions to the team.
“Very excited about the team we have this year. We would like to take a few steps further. It’s great to have Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) in the setting.
“Jhye (Richardson) has been added to the team. Dan Christian is back, a few Indian boys who have been selected are exciting, Daniel Sams has been raised,” he said.
The composition of the team actually made the captain calmer. “Personally, I feel at ease with the resources we have and the strength of our team. We expect to be in the park and lead to an IPL full of anticipation and nerves, looking forward to the first game on the ground as a team.”
AB de Villiers, a well-meaning RCB legend, is happy that the coaching staff speaks the same language, which creates less confusion and gives more freedom.
“One thing that stands out to me is the language the coaches use. Excited to have the same form as last year, some new faces, yes, but the same language used that gives us players freedom and comfort as we focus on our games and to see what we need to do, “said De Villiers.
On a lighter note, he said he would like to see crowds back at the stadium before hanging his shoe.
