IPL 2021: Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis join DC training camp after quarantine

Australian batsman Steve Smith and comprehensively Marcus Stoinis attended their first training session in the capital, Delhi (DC), after completing their mandatory quarantine on Friday.

The franchise that finished second in the Indian Premier League (IPL) said last season that the pair had played a training match with the rest of the DC team. The team trains at the Indian Cricket Club in Mumbai.

DC face Chennai Super Kings in their first game of the season at Wankhede Stadium on April 9. Batsman wrestler Rishab Pant will lead the team in place of Shreas Ayer, who was ruled out for the season with a shifted shoulder.

Head coach Ricky Ponting has said he expects the team to win the title this season, given the type of players they have.

“I’m excited about the players we have here and I think we can win the IPL. We can record and say it now because that’s why I’m here and that’s why the players are here,” he said.

“We had a chat and it’s all about winning and how we can go one step further than last year. But the other important thing for me is that we have a completely different group from the one we had last year. What happened last year does not matter. We have to work out a way to win enough matches to qualify and then win the final, “he added.
