Chasing 195 in Mumbai, Delhi started well as Davan and his ally Prithvi Shaw added 59 before the last one came out Chris Gale per square foot. Steve Smith, playing his first match in the colors of Delhi, also died after scoring 9 of 12 deliveries.
However, Davan continued in 43rd place IPL half a century, but missed the well-deserved tone. He left after scoring 92 escaped 49 balls, tied with 13 fours and two sixes.
Skipper Rishabh Pant (15) also failed to hold on until the end, but Marcus Stonis (27) and Lalit Yadav (12) remained in the middle while Delhi chased the total with 10 spare deliveries.
Earlier, a stand for the opening of the century between Mayank Agarwal and skipper KL Rahul directed the Punjab crew to the challenging 195/4 for 20 shots. Agarwal, after a vague performance in the first two games, regained his modjo to achieve 69 of 36 deliveries.
Rahul also joined with 61 of 51 deliveries as the duo propelled Punjab to a flying start. The Karnataka couple added 59 in powerplay and eventually reached 122 before Mayank fell victim to Lukman Meriwala. He eventually hit seven limits and four hits over the fence.
Rahul also followed Mayank in no time, with 141/2 on the board. Chris Gale of Universe Boss also failed to leave his mark, leaving for 11. Nicholas Pooran (9) failed again, but Shahruk Khan and Deepak Huda climbed in with late cameos.
Punjab have scored 45 runs in the last four overs to break the 190-run mark. While the uncovered Huda smashed the unbeaten 22 in 13 deliveries, the striker Shahruh scored 15 of only 5 balls in the last. For Delhi, Avesh Khan (1/33), Meriwala (1/32), Chris Woakes (1/42) and Rabada (1/43) took one goal each.
