Captain of the Knights of Kolkata (KKR) Eoin Morgan praised his spinners who confused the batsmen with their variations as they led their country to a convincing five-wicket victory over the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a match of the Indian Premier League on Monday.
Both Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarti allowed running under six and over. The former took two for 22 in his four overs, while the latter scalped one for 24 in his quota of four overs, as KKR limited PBKS to 123/9 for 20 overs.
“The advantage we have over most spinners is that our spinners are variation bowlers. They don’t rely on drift and turn. They control their length well and rely on a small amount of turns and today they were exceptional,” Morgan said.
The two spinners played in the middle and reduced the score and ultimately proved to be the reason for PBKS to reach its final score (123) rather than 150.
Left-wing Morgan, who led England to victory in the 2019 World Cup, also praised Shiyvam Mavi’s bowling for the selected dangerous Chris Gale early.
“(That was) Only his second game this season. The game against Gale was auspicious. He bowled well in the last game and started well here. It’s a huge impact for him, it’s a credit to him.”
Mavi sided Gail for a duck from the first ball.
Morgan thought Monday’s win could change things for the team. KKR jumped fifth from eighth in the points table.
“A lot of time to participate in the tournament. We hope that something can start for us today,” added Morgan.
