Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting gave an exciting speech to the team before the start of the season’s franchise match against Chennai Super Kings on April 10. Ponting joined the DC team earlier this week after completing a mandatory landing quarantine period in India.
In his speech, Ponting stressed four values: attitude, effort, commitment and care, adding that he wants players to stick together for the entire tournament.
Ponting also pointed to wicker wrestler Rishab Pant that this is his team, adding that it is time to forget his performance last season and start over. The franchise finished second in 2020, losing the final to the Mumbai Indians.
Pant was appointed captain of Delhi Capitals before the 2021 edition in the absence of Shrees Ayer, who was excluded from the tournament with a shoulder injury.
“It’s a different Delhi than it was years ago, isn’t it? And the reason it is, what you all bring to the franchise. Not for me, not for the coaches, but for you, isn’t it? This is your team now. New. “Captain Rishab, this is your team,” Ponting said in the video.
“My coaching has a pretty simple foundation. You show up with the right attitude, you make an effort, you make a commitment and you care, then you’re nice to me. Okay? They will be the team’s values for the next few months.”
Delhi Capitals have now set up base in Mumbai, where they have played in the first four games of the season.
