The defending Indian champions Mumbai won the throw and chose to fight first against Delhi Capitals in match 13 of the 14th season of the Indian Premier League. Both teams made several changes in their lineup for the game.
Mumbai made only one change for the evening – Jayant Yadav came in for Adam Milne. Given the presence of two left-handed beating options in the upper squad – Shikhar davan and Rishabh Pant – they brought Jayant – a trick they used in the final last year. In his IPL career, Jayant has chosen six wickets, all lefties. Delhi added a third to the lineup by including Shimron Hetmeier. However, Rohit explained that the conditions forced the change.
“We made a change purely because of the conditions – Adam Milne misses and we have Giant Yadav. This pitch looks much drier than the last few games. It’s important to focus on the little things,” Rohit said after winning the throw.
Delhi also made a tactical change, replacing Amit Mishra with left-handed player Lukam Merimala. Mishra fired Rohit six times and Ishan Kishan twice while he had decent experience against Quinton de Cock.
“We said we shouldn’t think much about throwing. Obviously we wanted to fight first. Two changes: Hetmeier and Amit Mishra come in. Merivala and Wax are out,” said Pant.
