Opener for England Johnny Beirstov, who smashed 124 games won in the second ODI, said on Friday he was aiming to score at most hundreds for his country.
Beirstow, along with Ben Stokes, 99, mocked India’s 337 bids to return home for 43.3 overs.
In sensational form Bairstow followed his 94 in the first ODI, which hit his 11th century and he has only Joe Koren (16), Captain Eoin Morgan (13) and Marcus Trescotic (12) ahead of him in the list of at most hundreds for England.
“Of course, I’d like to have at most ODI hundreds for England. Yes, I’m happy with those numbers, but those numbers don’t mean anything if you don’t win. I really enjoy my game,” Bairstow said after pointing England to their highest successful pursuit against India.
In the pursuit of the 318 in the first ODI, Bairstow had given an equally spectacular start, but a midfield failure meant they lost the game by 66 runs.
“A few days ago we were well ahead of the game, but that’s something we talked about and identified. It’s something we’re really happy with.”
Bairstow further credits their depth of watts to play with the freedom of the tip.
“Yes, absolutely. We have Adil Rashid, who enters 10 or 11. Adil has 10 hundred first-class players on his own. To have such a player, who enters 10 or 11, not many teams in the world have that.
