Being selected for India is a surreal feeling for young batsman goalkeeper Ishan Kishan, who received his first call-up for the upcoming T20I series against England, which is due to start on March 12 at the newly built Mottera Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Ishan’s choice came hours after he was bubbling with 94 balls 173 against Madhya Pradesh in Vijay Hazare. Along with Ishan, his Mumbai Indian teammate Suryakumar Yadav and the universal Rajasthan Royals Rahul Tevatiya also won calls for the first India.
Ishan, 22, took him to Twitter to express his joy. He also thanked everyone for their messages. The explosive left-hander had a brilliant season with the Mumbai Indians (Michigan) in the UAE last year, where he scored 516 tracks from 14 games and finished as the best hero in the Mumbai team.
“The last few days I feel overwhelmed by all your love. Your support means a lot to me. Thank you for all the kind messages you sent me. I feel very special. Playing for India has always been a big dream for me and to be chosen for #TeamIndia is a surreal feeling, “Ishan tweeted.
He added: “I will strive to continue to work hard and improve. #Thankful.”
Ishan will replace Sanju Samson as a reserve goalkeeper at the country’s door, as Risabh Pant returned to the squad with limited staff after presenting impressive performances in Australia.
