The experienced goalkeeper of the hockey player in India PR Sreejesh said on Friday that his re-election to the FIH Athletes’ Committee gives him another opportunity to express the views of his colleagues about the game to the world organization.
The 33-year-old Indian trustee was re-elected as a member of the FIH Athletes’ Committee during a virtual meeting of its executive board.
The experienced Sreejesh, who has also led the Indian team in the past, was one of four new members appointed by the EB who met two days before the 47th FIH Congress, which will also be held online.
He has been a member of the panel since 2017.
“Over the last four years, I have not only grown individually as a player, but the opportunity with the FIH Athletes Committee has given me a unique chance to understand, observe and express the views of my fellow hockey players,” said Sreejesh.
“With regular tournaments in Asia, such as the Asian Games, the Asian Champions Trophy, the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament, I get to interact with players from this region and this gives me a chance to understand their concerns and discuss the same further with the FIH Committee athletes. “
Hockey India congratulated Sreejesh on his re-election for a second term on the FIH Athletes’ Committee.
“Apart from his great performances on the field, Sreejesh has made an invaluable contribution to the growth of off-field hockey. We are delighted to be re-elected to the FIH Athletic Committee.
“I would like to congratulate Sreejesh on behalf of hockey India and wish him all the best for a second term on the FIH Athletes’ Committee,” HI President Gyanendro Ningombam said in a statement.
The FIH Athlete Committee consists of current and former players who make recommendations to the FIH Executive Board, FIH Committees, Advisory Boards and other bodies on behalf of all athletes to develop the various resources and initiatives necessary for player growth and sports.
