Facebook Tweaks Advertising tools before the changes in Apple’s privacy

Facebook said Wednesday it was making changes to its advertising tools to accommodate Apple’s upcoming privacy update, limiting the effectiveness of the data collection features used by advertisers.

The world’s largest social media company is in conflict On Apple Application Tracking Transparency, which is expected to start with the latest iPhone next week’s software update that allows users to block advertisers from tracking them in various applications.

Apple says it protects data privacy rights, but faces criticism from Facebook, application developers and startups whose business models rely on ad tracking.

Facebook said on Wednesday, changes to advertising tools will limit the ways in which target audiences can be selected and how the success of an advertising campaign is measured.

The company said it was investing in privacy enhancement technologies to minimize the amount of data collected from users.

Facebook and Apple are also embroiled in commissions that the iPhone maker charges the apps listed in iOS devices, with the social media giant supporting small developers most affected by the policy.
