English wiki-batsman Ben Fawkes was ruled out of Wednesday’s upcoming two-match Test against New Zealand after an ugly locker room caused a torn tendon.
The 28-year-old suffered an injury after slipping into his socks while walking in the locker room after Surrey’s district championship match against Middlesex on the Oval, ESPNCricinfo reported.
Haseeb Hameed and unlimited Sam Billings have been added to the England test team for the matches against New Zealand.
Foakes had to play his first test at home next month at Lord’s after fellow Wikipets Joss Butler and Johnny Beirstov — together with Mouen Ali, Sam Quran and Chris Wax – had rested for the series after their stay in the Indian Premier League.
Fox could be out of action for three months, leaving him unsure of the upcoming series against India and the ashes a tour at the end of the year if his deputy James Bracey impresses behind the stumps in the coming weeks.
Foakes will be evaluated by Surrey’s medical team, which will also work on his rehabilitation.
So far, he has participated in 8 tests, scoring 410 runs in difficult conditions, taking 14 catches and making five stumps.
Hamid returns to the England team after last playing in November 2016.
Hameed was in impressive shape during the county’s 2021 season, amassing 474 runs at an average of 52.66. Billings remains unlimited as a test player.
