There may be more than a month left for the planned start of the series of five tests against England, but the Indian team has potentially already failed.
Indian opener Shubman Gil will likely miss the first test in the series due to an “internal injury,” according to a Cricbuzz report. The exact nature and location of the injury are not yet known.
However, the report says that Gil suffered the injury for some time and that it has worsened recently. Gill took part in India’s XI game in the World Cup final against New Zealand, which takes place between 18-23 June.
In Gil’s absence, it is likely that Team India will turn to one of the other two opening teams; Mayank Agarwal and KL RahulLet’s start with Rohit Sharma. Both opening devices were not part of the 15-member team for the WTC final.
The Indian team is currently on a 20-day break after the final, where they faced an 8-wicket defeat. The team will meet in Durham on July 14, where players will begin preparations for the England series.
BCCI has asked the England and Wales (ECB) Cricket Board to host a tournament, but there is no official confirmation yet.
Meanwhile, the limited country of India, led by Shikhar Davan, reached Sri Lanka earlier this week to prepare for the ODI and T20I three-match series, which begins on July 13. Rahul Dravid traveled with him as a coach.
