Indian Premier League (ISL) top striker ATK Mohun Bagan Manvir Singh said on Saturday that people should not compare him to Indian captain Sunil Chetri, as the latter is a legend.
Manvir, who is in Qatar with the Indian team to play three World Cup qualifiers in 2022, said: “I just have to work hard to establish myself. The replacement of Four is a huge thing, he is legend. I don’t do it I want to compare myself to him. I have to show my own performances. ”
Manvir credited his performance in the 2020-21 ISL season with the opportunities he received during his stay at FC Goa.
The 25-year-old finished the season with six goals and three assists – his best campaign in the ISL – and led his team to the final, where he lost to Mumbai City FC.
“It was a wonderful trip. I didn’t get regular time to play at FC Goa, but I had time here and there. It boosted my confidence. I understood ISL standards and how to perform. Then I signed for ATK. Mohun Bagan and I took advantage of that. an opportunity to give our 100 percent, “the striker told footballmonk.com.
In his move from FC Goa to ATC Mohun Bagan, Manvir said the strong pre-season year boosted his confidence and allowed him to perform consistently in the 2020-21 season.
“I didn’t get much opportunity at Goa FC. If someone comes in the 80th minute, what can you expect from them during those 10 minutes?
“Later, I spent the pre-season at Minderwa Punjab in Chandigarh. The pre-season was very satisfying. The momentum continued throughout the season. It leveled my confidence and performance. It helped me a lot.”
The striker announced his arrival in ISL 2020-21 with a strike in the first derby of Kolkata for the season. Singh came on as a replacement for Antonio Lopez Habas in the second half and doubled his lead over city rivals East Bengal.
“I felt very proud to have scored in my first derby,” said Manvir.
