Indian star scorer Deepika Kumari returned to number one in the world rankings on Monday after his hat-trick with gold medals in stage 3 of the World Cup here.
The 27-year-old man from Ranchi, who first won first place in 2012, is vying for gold medals in three recurring events on Sunday – individual women, a team and a mixed doubles.
“This will put Deepika in first place in the world rankings on Monday,” World Archery had announced on its official handle after the Deepika gold rush.
Deepika first combined with Ankita Bakat and Comalica Bari to win the women’s gold team with a comfortable victory over Mexico.
She then teamed up with her husband Atanu Das and the pair from a 0-2 deficit to down the Dutch Sef van den Berg and Gabriela Schloser 5-3 for the gold medal.
After that, the rancher in Ranchi remained 17th-ranked Russian Elena Osipova with 6: 0 to finish a perfect triple of the three in the women’s reversal section, her fourth individual gold medal from the World Cup.
In total, she has nine gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals in the World Cup.
“This is the first time I’ve won all three medals at the World Cup. I’m really happy, but at the same time I have to keep improving because we have several very, very important races in order,” Deepika told PTI after his triumph. .
Deepika became only the second Indian woman after Dola Banerjee to grab the status of numero uno in June 2012 after receiving her first individual recurring gold medal at the World Cup in Antalya, Turkey.
She will be the only Indian shooter to represent the country at the Tokyo Olympics next month.
