Throwing West Indian Chris Gale, as Bangladesh station wagon Shakib al Hasan and a senior batsman from South Africa Faf du Plessis will participate in the Caribbean Premier League in 2021 (CPL), which will be played in St. Kitts and Nevis from August 28 to September 19.
Gail will return with the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, a team he represented in 2017 and 2018, the statement said.
The self-proclaimed “Universe Boss” led the Patriots to their only Hero CPL final in its first year with the franchise. As a leading scorer in the history of T20, he brings with him a huge amount of experience in the Patriots team.
Shakib, the world’s leading revolving station wagon, rejoined Jamaica’s Talava for the 2021 season after playing for the franchise in 2016 and 2017, before moving to Barbados Tridents in 2019 and winning the title with them.
Du Plessis will play for the St. Lucia Zouks this season. The former South African captain has been in great form in recent months for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, where he has made four consecutive half-centuries, including 95, who were not against Kolkata Knight Readers.
This is his second stay at Hero CPL since playing for the Patriots in 2016. All 33 matches of the T20 tournament will be played in Warner Park, St. Kitts in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tournament was organized entirely in Trinidad and Tobago in 2020, with matches played at the Queen’s Park Oval and Brian Lara Stadium.
The government of St. Kitts and Nevis said fans would be allowed into the venue, but only 50% of tickets would be sold and all patrons should be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Trinbago Knight Riders won the last edition in 2020, defeating St Lucia Zouks with eight cash registers in the final.
