Barcelona President Joan Laporta is “convinced” that Lionel Messi will sign a new stay contract with the La Liga giant.
Messi has no contract at the end of the season and the future of the 33-year-old with Barça is far from certain against the background of strong ties with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Manchester City, DPA reported.
Laporte remains determined to re-sign Messi, who has spent his entire senior career at Camp Nou.
As Barça prepared for the Copa del Rey final over the weekend against Athletic Bilbao, Laporta was asked about the record six-time Ballon d’Or winner. “Everything is progressing adequately,” Laporta said.
Messi has scored 23 goals in the league and provided eight assists in 28 appearances in La Liga for Barca this season.
In total, Messi has scored 29 goals in all competitions in 2020-21.
