Ivan Dodig and Philip Polasek won their first Grand Slam doubles title together, defeating defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury at the Australian Open on Sunday at Rod Laver Arena.
Croatia’s Dodig and Slovakia’s Polasek defeated Ram and Salisbury 6-3, 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena, without clashing and constantly putting pressure on their senior opponents.
It should have been especially special for Polasek, who retired in 2018 after a back problem led to leg problems and forced him out of the game. Two days ago, his partner gave birth to their second child, a daughter.
Polasek presented the race with ease. He was the lone player of the quartet on the court, who did not lift a trophy from the men’s Grand Slam.
Ram and Salisbury failed in their bid to become the first re-winners of men’s doubles, as Bob and Mike Brian competed three in a row from 2009-11.
