Asus ZenFone 8 will be released on May 12 with a display that has a cutout in the upper left corner for a selfie camera, confirmed a teaser from the Taiwanese company. Reports of the existence of many models of smartphones from the ZenFone 8 series have been pouring in for several quarters. However, the latest development does not provide any information about them. Past leaks suggest that Asus may release the ZenFone 8 Mini and ZenFone 8 Flip, in addition to the vanilla ZenFone 8.
A tweeting Published by Asus on April 27 also irritated that the phone will offer smooth operation. This can be a hint of a display with a high refresh rate or a powerful SoC under the hood. The tweet also shows an animated outline of the upcoming phone, with a visible cutout of a hole. This suggests that the vanilla ZenFone 8 will not be available with a flip camera for selfies like its predecessor, Asus ZenFone 7.
Speaking of the display, previous reports claimed this Asus ZenFone 8 Mini can be released with a 5.92-inch display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is also possible for the vanilla model to receive a display with a high refresh rate.
Confirming the launch date on May 12, Asus created a microsite for the start event, which shows a countdown timer.
As for what’s under the hood, the phones in the series are reports to be equipped with up to 16GB of RAM and Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, hinting at trouble-free operation. In fact, Asus is launching its phone as “large in performance, compact in size.” Asus will probably broadcast its event live on its social media channels.
Although Asus did not reveal any number or names of smartphones in the ZenFone 8 series, past leaks suggest the existence of multiple phones in the series. A alleged report that they found references to three smartphones with code names “SAKE”, “PICASSO” and “VODKA” in the source code of the kernel and firmware of Asus ROG 5 phone alluding to the many models of ZenFone 8 smartphones.
