The Spanish competition authority CNMC is investigating possible anti-competitive practices in Spain by Apple and Amazon regarding online sales of electronic products.
CNMC said in a statement Thursday that it has initiated disciplinary proceedings for possible illegal behavior by the two companies, which will include possible restrictions on Amazon website in Spain.
“(Restrictions) would affect the retail sale of Apple third-party products and the advertising of competing Apple products, leading to reduced competition in the online retail market for electronic products, ”CNMC said.
In addition, they could strengthen Amazon’s position in the retail marketing services through online platforms in Spain.
Amazon said in a statement that it was cooperating fully with the authorities on the issue, while Apple in Spain was not immediately available for comment.
CNMC’s production opens a maximum period of 18 months to investigate and resolve the case.
