Ankita Raina’s other attempt to qualify for the main draw of the Grand Slam of singles failed as she bowed to the qualifications for the French Open with a defeat in the second round, here on Wednesday.
Ankita, against the higher ranked German Greet Minnen, can win only two matches in the entire match, which lasted one hour and 21 minutes. The 125th ranked Indian could convert only one of the three break points and eventually lost 2-6 0-6.
This was Ankita’s seventh attempt to break the basic scheme of the single. She had reached the final round of the Australian Open qualifier earlier this year, falling in the final stage.
Later on Wednesday, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal will judge their respective men’s second round matches.
