Experienced pro Anirban Lahiri has qualified for his second consecutive Olympic appearance after finishing as India’s top-ranked golfer in Tokyo’s men’s men’s final final on Tuesday.
The Indian made the reduction in 60th place, the last available quota in the ranking of the games. India qualified for one place, and Lahiri was the highest in the last official world ranking of golf in 340th place.
“The best surprise I’ve had in a while. @ Tokyo2020 can’t believe I’ll have the opportunity to represent the tricolor once again,” Lahiri tweeted.
Aditi Ashok is also vying to make the cut for the Games for the second time in a row, but her qualifications will be confirmed after the final Olympic women’s rankings are released on June 29.
Golf was returned to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 for the first time since the 1904 edition.
