Android 12 beta 2 comes out for phones with Google Pixel and offers some of the privacy features that were shown on Google I / O last month. Google shared the development through a post on its Android developer blog stating that the privacy dashboard feature has made its way to Android 12 with the latest beta. There are also feature updates for better functionality, improved stability, and performance improvements. Android 12 beta is available for Pixel 3 phones and newer for those who sign up for the program.
Features of Android 12 beta 2
Google demonstrated Android 12 in Google I / O last month, where he presented the new design, new colors, privacy features and many more that will be present in the upcoming iteration of Android. With the first beta version, the eligible phones received the new Material You design and aesthetic tweaks, along with some other features. Now, s Android 12 beta 2, new privacy features have been introduced. Includes a privacy dashboard that shows the data that applications have access to. It has a timeline view of which apps had access to the microphone, camera, and location.
Developers can use the new system ACTION_VIEW_PERMISSION_USAGE_FOR_PERIOD to inform users why their applications have accessed sensitive data.
Android 12 beta 2 also includes microphone and camera indicators in the status bar that inform users when apps are using the camera or microphone. If the user thinks that the camera or microphone does not need to be active at this time, he can enter the quick settings and manage the permissions for these applications.
New quick microphone and camera setup switches allow users to instantly disable apps’ access to them. In case the app uses the camera or microphone and the user turns off the switch, the app will receive blank broadcasts for camera and audio. This is only available on supported devices.
With Android 12 beta 2, users will receive a toast notification when an app reads from the clipboard. This means that when applications try to read something that the user has copied, they will be notified. It will not send a toast notification if the clipboard is copied from the same application.
Finally, the status bar, quick settings, and settings get an Internet panel that will help users easily switch between their ISPs and troubleshoot network connectivity issues. This will essentially allow users to more easily manage their network connections.
Android 12 beta 2 is available for Pixel 3 and newer models. Those in the first beta will automatically receive a beta 2 update. Those who wish to try the new beta can sign up here. Google will release another beta in July and the latest beta 4 in August to test the stability of the platform.
